SRINAGAR: In a move that is likely to send ripples across Jammu and Kashmir’s healthcare system, the Health & Medical Education Department has banned Dr. Hanief Dar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Government Medical College Srinagar, from engaging in private practice with immediate effect.
The action comes after a startling revelation by the State Health Agency, J&K, which reported that Dr. Dar performed a whopping 1807 surgeries— exclusively in private hospitals—while not a single procedure was recorded at GMC Srinagar under the AB-PMJAY/SEHAT health scheme.
The order reads that despite being a full-time faculty member, Dr. Dar’s medical services have been directed overwhelmingly toward the private sector, “significantly outweighing his contribution to government service,” the government said.
“This constitutes a serious violation of J&K Service Conduct Rules and Government directives on private practice by medical faculty,” the order states. As a result, the government has invoked powers under service rules to immediately bar Dr. Dar from any kind of private medical practice across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
