Pulwama records coldest night as Kashmir valley freezes

Srinagar: Sub-zero night temperatures continued across large parts of the Kashmir Valley, with several places recording minimum temperatures well below the freezing point, while the Jammu region witnessed comparatively milder conditions, officials said on Friday.

In the Kashmir region, Pulwama recorded the lowest minimum temperature at minus 4.0 degrees Celsius, followed by Baramulla at minus 3.6 degrees Celsius and Pampore and Shopian at minus 3.5 degrees Celsius each, officials said.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar settled at minus 2.1 degrees Celsius, while the Srinagar airport recorded minus 3.4 degrees Celsius.Other parts of the Valley also experienced freezing conditions, with Kupwara, Anantnag and Bandipora recording minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam and Awantipora minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, Budgam minus 2.4 degrees Celsius and Qazigund minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, officials said.

Ganderbal recorded a minimum of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag and Kulgam logged 0.5 degrees Celsius and 0.9 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Gulmarg and Sonamarg recorded minimum temperatures of 1.0 degree Celsius and 0.1 degree Celsius, respectively.In the Jammu region, night temperatures remained above the freezing point, with Jammu recording a minimum of 9.9 degrees Celsius, while the Jammu airport logged 11.1 degrees Celsius, officials said.

Katra recorded 9.2 degrees Celsius, Kathua 8.8 degrees Celsius, Reasi 7.8 degrees Celsius and Batote and Doda 6.7 degrees Celsius each.Further, Udhampur recorded 4.2 degrees Celsius, Banihal 3.5 degrees Celsius, Bhaderwah 2.3 degrees Celsius, Rajouri 2.4 degrees Celsius, Samba 5.4 degrees Celsius, Ramban 5.8 degrees Celsius and Kishtwar 6.1 degrees Celsius, they said.

In the Ladakh region, Leh recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius, while Kargil logged minus 4.0 degrees Celsius and Nubra Valley minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, officials added.(KNS).
