New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed advocate Shri Singh as the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) to handle the trial of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack case on behalf of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The appointment, issued on October 28, covers proceedings before the NIA Special Court, Jammu, and the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, for three years or until the trial concludes, whichever is earlier.
The Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of six civilians, mostly Hindu tourists, had triggered nationwide outrage and prompted India to respond decisively, including the launch of Operation Sindoor against cross-border terror infrastructure.
The NIA, which took over the case due to its national security implications, had arrested two men—Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar—who harbored the three armed Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists responsible for the attack.
Both accused provided shelter, food, and logistical support to the attackers, who selectively targeted tourists based on religious identity.
The appointment of Shri Singh is expected to strengthen prosecution efforts and expedite trial proceedings in one of Jammu and Kashmir’s most high-profile terror cases, reinforcing India’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
