J-K’s Poonch Lawmaker Remembers Palestine Civilians in Assembly

Srinagar: During the opening session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Thursday, Poonch MLA Ajaz Ahmed Jan brought attention to the ongoing situation in Palestine and requested the House to discuss civilian casualties.

While participating in the customary obituary references, Jan highlighted recent incidents in Gaza, focusing on the loss of civilian lives, including children.

He asked the Speaker to allow discussion on the matter as part of the day’s Assembly business, noting the increasing humanitarian concerns.Jan said the House should consider taking a position on the situation in Palestine and express concern over the reported killings of non-combatants.

He urged the Assembly to address the matter formally, stating that the legislature has a role in raising awareness on international humanitarian crises.

Jan emphasized that the Assembly should provide a platform to express concern and seek measures that reflect the values of the legislative body. He requested the members to register the issue officially and consider issuing a statement on civilian casualties in Gaza.(KNS)
