Pathankot: A surgeon from Pathankot has been detained in connection with the Delhi Red Fort blast that killed 13 people on Monday, India Today reported.

Dr Rayees Ahmad Bhat, 45, who is currently employed at White Medical College in Pathankot, was picked up for questioning after investigators found that he had allegedly been in contact with Dr Umar Nabi, the man who drove a Hyundai i20 that exploded near Delhi’s Red Fort.

Dr Bhat had previously worked at Al-Falah University in Faridabad from 2020 to 2021, the same institution where Dr Umar Nabi was based.

Authorities said that Dr Bhat maintained regular communication with staff at the university, which has been associated with individuals linked to terror activities.

Sources stated that Dr Bhat was taken into custody to help investigators “establish facts” and determine whether he was involved in what officials describe as a “white collar” terror module, allegedly supported by groups including Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

Police are continuing their probe into the incident to ascertain the full network behind the attack. Dr Bhat’s detention is part of the ongoing investigation aimed at uncovering all possible links to the Red Fort blast.
