Ludhiana: In a tragic and disturbing incident in Sahnewal, Ludhiana, three members of a family returning from a wedding were killed after their car collided with a truck late Wednesday night.

Instead of assisting the victims, people gathered at the accident site allegedly looted valuable belongings, including an iPhone, cash and gold jewellery.

According to police, the family was travelling back to Fatehgarh Sahib when the car was hit by a speeding truck. The impact left the vehicle mangled, killing a husband and wife on the spot, while another family member succumbed to injuries shortly afterwards.

Two others were injured and were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Witnesses and relatives alleged that several individuals present at the scene focused on taking valuables rather than helping the injured. Cash estimated to be around ₹3 lakh, nearly 15 tolas of gold, an iPhone, an Apple Watch and even wedding gift envelopes were reportedly stolen from the car.

Some people were seen removing jewellery from the victims, including pulling a ring from one person’s hand, family members claimed.

The family belongs to Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib district and runs a major bike showroom in the area. Their daughter’s wedding ceremony had been held in a Ludhiana marriage palace, and the family was returning home after the celebrations when the accident took place.

The sequence of events has triggered widespread outrage, not only because of the fatal crash but also due to the behaviour of those who chose to loot instead of offering help.

The incident has raised pressing concerns about road safety, civic duty and the declining sense of collective responsibility in emergency situations.

Police said an investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of the crash and to identify individuals involved in the alleged theft.

CCTV footage from nearby locations is being reviewed, and officers said strict action will be taken once suspects are identified.

The grieving family has appealed for justice and urged authorities to ensure that those responsible — both for the accident and for the looting — are held accountable.
