New Delhi: A 20-year-old Delhi University student suffered acid burns after being attacked near Lakshmibai College in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area on Sunday morning, India Today reported.
The victim sustained burns on both hands and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, and police said she is out of danger.
According to Delhi Police, the accused, identified as her stalker Jitender, along with two associates, Ishan and Arman, allegedly threw acid at her while she was walking to an extra class around 10 am. The three reportedly arrived on a motorcycle. Police said, “Ishan handed over a bottle to Arman, who threw acid on her.” The student managed to shield her face but suffered burns on her hands.
The victim, a resident of Mukundpur, told police that she had a heated argument with Jitender about a month ago, and that he had been stalking her. All three accused are reportedly from the same locality.
Delhi Police received a call from Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital regarding the admission of the injured student. Teams from the Crime Branch and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) visited the site to collect evidence.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and police are actively searching for the three accused.Authorities have urged anyone with information about the whereabouts of Jitender, Ishan, and Arman to come forward.The police emphasized that they are committed to ensuring the arrest of the accused and bringing them to justice.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of students near college campuses and the growing threat of stalking-related violence. The victim’s family and local authorities are closely monitoring her recovery while cooperating with the police investigation.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accused, and Delhi Police have increased patrols in the area to prevent any further incidents.
