Srinagar: In a major breakthrough, Police Station Lal Bazar arrested Asmat Jan, also known as Taboo, a woman accused in multiple cheating cases across the Kashmir Valley.

The accused, a resident of Maisuma, Srinagar, had been evading arrest despite several FIRs registered against her in Srinagar and other districts, including Khrew Awantipora, Pulwama, Sopore, and Chadoora, Budgam.

Acting on credible information, a police team from PS Lal Bazar, led by SDPO Zadibal and SP Hazratbal, apprehended Asmat Jan at Hotel White House in Jalandhar, Punjab, on November 15, 2025.

She was brought back to Police Station Lal Bazar on a two-day transit remand on Monday.

The arrest follows allegations raised by the Gold Association of Kashmir Valley, which held two press conferences in Srinagar claiming that Asmat Jan had been defrauding gold shopkeepers across the region.

FIR No. 42/2025 has been registered against her under Sections 303(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Lal Bazar.
